Redirect Virus Removal
Redirect Virus
The Redirect virus is one of the latest plagues on the Internet. It’s a virus or form of malware that overrides the web address put into an Internet browser in order to redirect the web address to an undesired web page. If clicking on links in Google or Bing pulls up web pages that have nothing to do with the search performed, it’s very likely that the Redirect virus infected the computer. There’s no need to suffer with this malware any longer; read on for how to fix the Redirect virus by removing it from a computer.
Redirect Virus Removal Steps
To remove the virus, begin by pressing the Start button on the desktop, then click on the Control Panel. Select System and Security from the options presented, then select Device Manager. Click View from the menu bar and select Show Hidden Devices. Scroll down until the following appears: TDSSserve.sys. Click on this to disable it. Now restart the computer. When the computer is up and running again, update the anti-viral removal software. If one isn’t on the computer already, there are several free programs available for download. Malwarebytes’ “Anti-Malware” is one to try. Another is called “Redirect Virus Removal for Windows XP and Vista.” Run the removal software. It will scan for the virus and remove it completely.
Checking LAN, local area network, settings after running the program is a good idea. LAN settings are usually found under the Tools menus in most browsers. Be sure that the “no proxy” or similarly worded option is checked to prevent future hijacking of the browser. If multiple browsers are routinely used, do this for every one.
Finally, download and run an anti-rootkit program. One to look for is called “UnHack Me.” This will fix any remaining redirect issues with the browsers. This program also monitors the computer for malware that will cause malfunctions due to root issues in the future.
Follow all the steps on the redirect virus removal process completely. The virus corrupts registry files. It disables firewalls and disrupts virus removal software already on the computer.

Redirect Virus Removal Using a USB Thumb Drive
Because the Redirect virus is so insidious, corrupting virus removal software already on the computer, it might interfere with reaching websites from where programs can be downloaded. Here’s how to fix the redirect virus using a USB thumb drive and an uninfected computer.
Go to the uninfected computer to find the software programs. Download them to the desktop and create disk images out of the downloaded programs. Save the disk images to the USB thumb drive. These are so inexpensive these days that having an extra one gigabyte USB thumb drive devoted exclusively to anti-virus and redirect virus removal software would be a smart $15 investment. Now take the USB drive back to the infected computer. Upload the disk images and install the programs. Don’t forget to create and put a disk image of the anti-rootkit program on the USB drive.
